The legend of the Christmas Spider
A long time ago a mother was busy with the preperations for Christmas eve. She cleaned the house and everything was spotless and shiny. She whiped the floor and chased away some spiders from the living room with a broom. The spiders fled up to the attic and listened with interest to all the activity when the family decorated the christmas tree. When things got quiet again the little spiders went down again to have a look at the lovely decorated tree. They were happy and admired the tree and its ornaments while walking on the branches. But by the time the were ready climbing up and down the tree, it was fully covered with there dusty, grey spider webs. When the christmas child appeared He smiled at the little spiders and knew the mother would be very dissapointed and sad if she would see the tree this way. He went up to the tree and touched the spider webs and blessed them, changing them in silver and gold. Nu the tree glistened and looked sparkling, even more beautiful then before. This is where the tradition comes from to hang golden and silver tinsel in a christmas tree.

Christmas spiders
The legend of the christmas spider is an ancient story that probably has its roots in Germany. It describes the origin of what we now call tinsel. Hanging tinsel in a christmas tree is said to bring good luck.
The spiders shown here can be made in all kinds of different colours, so feel free to contact me if there are questions or special wishes.
